WHOOO'S Mrs. Oprondek?
My name is Collette Oprondek and I am very excited to be starting my eleventh year teaching at Sangamon Elementary School! Let me take a moment to tell you a little bit about myself.
I am originally from Lemont, IL, a southwest suburb of Chicago. I attended Valparaiso University from 1999-2003 and graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education with middle school endorsements in language arts and social studies. I began teaching 5th and 6th grade language arts in the Archdiocese of Chicago. I taught at St. Germaine for two years before moving into the public school system. While teaching in the public schools I was a one-on-one assistant for a child with sensory integration disorder in Darien,IL, then I became a fourth grade teacher in that same district. After a failed referendum, I moved to Wood Dale School District to teach fifth grade. I taught fifth grade there for a year and then the building went to a grade level center so I was moved to second grade. I was a second grade teacher for four years there and I LOVED it!
In 2011 my husband (originally from Fairbury, IL) accepted a job at Carle Hospital, and that brought me to Mahomet. I was the Title 1 reading interventionist for the remainder of the 2011-2012 school year. In August of 2012, our daughter Norah was born. I had a blessed year off with her. Then I was back in the Mahomet district as a long term substitute for THREE maternity leaves. I am over the moon excited to be teaching 2nd grade at Sangamon and to be working alongside AMAZING teachers and such great families.
